In their quest for military superiority, humans throughout history have created weapons that would give them an advantage in a course of a war.

From historical times to date, the type of weapons used in combat can make a difference between victory and defeat. Whether it is a one-on-one combat or an outright war, the one who uses the best weapon wins.

Below are some noteworthy ancient weapons that have been used in battle.

10. Urumi

To begin with, this is not like the whips you’d see in the Indiana Jones movies. Invented in the Southern part of India, Urumi is a sword with a flexible, whip-like blade made of metal with two razor-sharp edges. You could add several of these blades to a handle, they become like the ones you see in the first picture above.

An attacker swings the blade circularly around their body during combat. When striking, the blade is used like a whip. Thanks to its flexibility it can even hit an opponent carrying a shield because the blade can reach around it.
